Many people have stereotyped those who are homeless in their minds. Until they find themselves homeless. Or on the verge of homelessness or one of their close friends who does not fit the stereotype become homeless.
There are many reasons why someone may find themselves homeless. Some of the reasons match the stereotypes portrayed in movies, and literature. However the fact remains many will find themselves homeless without ever having matched one of the above mentioned stereotypes.
People become homeless when they run out of resources, become ill, either from disease or neglecting of their health for whatever reason. Sometimes the reason someone neglects their health is because they cannot afford medical care, and don't qualify for assistant programs.
As someone gets sicker due to unaffordable medical care or treatment, they may begin missing work days, or have to leave early from work. Eventually a job is lost. Because the employer needs the worker at work not at home, so because the employee is a liability the company will terminate the employee after a time.
Once someone loses a job due to ill health, it then becomes very difficult to get another job. Case in point, I know of someone who lost a job due to uncontrolled blood sugar levels. Since that time that person has not been able to return to the workforce for any length of time.
Also something to take note of, just because someone's sugar levels are high does not always mean that person is filling up on sugar every few minutes. There are other things besides just eating that can cause your sugar levels to rise. Such as living under very high-stress conditions, stress can also run up your blood pressure, and aid in other illnesses taking hold.
It's good to deal with stress before it becomes a life-threatening health threat. (For example before you find yourself facing a heart attack or stroke, or some other serious health issue'")
Ok, so homelessness is not something that just happens to "those kinds of people". It is something that can and does happen to many people. Some people are able to effectively hide their homelessness by staying with relatives or friends, for a time.
However, the longer someone remains homeless the harder it will become to find a new home.
