Life; Simplified; Measured

Randy Shy
Life is but a few decades worth after factoring in medical advancements, self-discipline in adhering to the law of physics, and a pinch of luck. Life; a linear journey without u-turns but plenty of junctions (you can bet on that part about 'junctions').

From cradle to grave, it's too long a walk for some (those who have chose to end it prematurely), and seemingly too short for many others (those who have passed on no matter how defiantly they've fought in the final moments) out there in this world as I type this. Let's halt our activities, our pursuance, and take a look at life in depth.

Day to day, we've hurried from place to place, many a times blindly, bluntly. Caught in our pursuance for a steady foothold in the society today? As we strive to live our dreams, or simply just to satisfy our needs and/or wants and those of our loved ones, we may have lost sight of the very basic needs - love and compassion.

As the saying goes, life is not measured by the number of breaths you take but simply the moments that take your breaths away. In my own words, I'd interpret it as what's really the point in stretching those years (and wrinkles) if there ain't gonna be happiness, compassion and love in it?

How would I then measure the life that I've walked from birth till death? By the words exchanged and the tears shed when my funeral comes. Of how many of those present would have been touched by my actions in a positive way? I probably wouldn't be bothered about how much cash I have in my bank account nor the luscious and posh lifestyle I've led by then. But if I've lived my life with contentment and compassion, lighting up others' lives along my way, my stroll here would not have been wasted.

As we slog through the days, have we stopped and helped those in need of our help, or simply have we even noticed them in the first place? Now, I ain't no saintly goody-two-shoes but I try to do that as much as I can. Why? Helping others is indeed happiness two-fold. You'd definitely feel good about yourself knowing that you really aren't the jerk in the eyes of some, and you probably might have been the sunshine to the one you've helped in any ways, big or small.

Here's the thought of the day; For a lit candle loses nothing when it lights up another.
