Life Theme

Life Theme

Hot.
Cold.
Dark.
Light.

All
varying shades
of warm and cool
and the grey in between -
seemingly common themes
in words of late.

...Or perhaps not
your themes, but mine;
seen as yours simply
for knowing such
have been the theme
of my existence?

Do we create
life themes based
on common experience?
Or do we develop, live out,
such themes based not
on commonality,
but the perception
of commonality
through the eyes
of others?

And if you, observing
the patterns of mood,
action, belief or behavior,
create
my life theme,
can I escape
the jailer and his bars?
A prison erected
by society.

Is it possible to escape
the perception of my Self
through others -
trading your set of bars
for the darker prison
of my own creation -
solitude and loneliness?
Can this be possible
without becoming
the life theme?

And if I create
the theme of my life,
is it possible
to break free
of the jailer
when the jailer
is the
Self?
