Life Under the Carbon Tax

How Much More Can the American Wallet Stand?

x
With the global warming boogeyman scaring the hell out of everyone, unscrupulous politicians know a golden opportunity when they see one. It seems a certain cadre of senators, led by Senator Chris Dodd, is trying to sell America on the virtues of the so-called "Carbon Tax".

We already have too many taxes, and it is hard enough for the majority who has to work for a living and pay bills that seem to increase each month. A carbon tax would make everything more expensive, not just a kilowatt hour of electricity or a gallon of gas.

The increase would not just hit Americans at the gas pump and the meter. People seem to forget that everything takes energy to be produced, transported, and stored. The tax would be figured in at every stage of production, from the raw material phase to the finished product.

In each step, the tax would add just a little more to the price the consumer pays. If you think $5.00 for a gallon of milk is outrageous now, wait until this tax affects the price of fuel for farm equipment and transfer trucks, and electricity to pasteurize, bottle, and store the stuff!

Services would become more expensive as well; the average user of public transportation will probably not be able to afford bus fare. In other words, the Carbon Tax would hurt worst the people who rely on public transportation the most.

The people who support the Carbon tax do make some rather compelling arguments in favor of the tax, and even have rather intelligent rebuttals towards anti-Carbon Tax arguments, but they don't change the economic realities of the Working Class, who are working harder and harder every year for an increasingly smaller piece of a rapidly shrinking pie.

One claim made by supporters is that the Carbon Tax would not hurt the lower and middle class, but what about the economic reality of the producers of goods and services (i.e., THE RICH) passing their cost increases down to the consumer (i.e., THE POOR)? This economic reality cannot be changed unless implemented by forceful means (i.e., FASCISM).

The supporters also claim that the carbon tax is better for the workers because the government will progressively phase out sales and property taxes as revenues from the Carbon Tax build up. Since when has the government ever repealed a tax? Our unconstitutional Federal Income Tax started as the War Revenue Act of 1899, which raised money for the Spanish-American War, and was supposed to expire in 1902. Instead, it was made a part of our constitution in 1913, when 36 states ratified the 16th amendment, which gave the government the power to tax our income.

See? They started missing that extra money, even though taxes on beer, chewing gum, and tobacco were doubled during that time, so they kept the other taxes while bringing back the War Revenue Act under a different name! Americans already pay over half their income in dozens of different taxes, and most will not be able to survive the strain of many more!

The Carbon Tax isn't about saving the environment or reducing our dependency on fossil fuels. It is about making government bigger, more powerful, and more invasive. In spite of what they tell us, they want to keep us all hooked on carbon-based fuels when this tax passes, otherwise they'd kill their golden goose!

Oh, and the Earth has been warming and cooling all by itself for eons, without the help of man. True, human activity may be contributing to it, but the Earth will continue to get warmer, and then cool down with or without our interference.

Recent findings by astronomers reveal that the surface of Mars and the Sun are heating up as well, and both places are notably devoid of human habitation! No matter what we do, even if we all live like Neanderthals in caves, we cannot stop the natural cycle of climate change, no matter what these politicians tell us.

Please review all the facts and make up your own mind accordingly. I, for one, feel I am a good steward of God's Earth, and have worked hard to get to where I am at. My family does not deserve to be nickel-and-dimed into a retrograde existence. Trying to stop manbearpig is as futile as trying to stop a hurricane, tornado, or any other meteorological condition. Anyone who tells you this is possible is either lying to you or lives in La-la land.

  • Americans have a hard enough time saving money as it is, let alone making ends meet.
  • Another tax would just make the tentacles of government even longer and more invasive.
  • If the government taxes carbon-based fuels, we'll be stuck with them forever.

Carbon tax proposing is the work of the devil.

Mike, I will never be one hundred percent sold on the theory either for or against global warming. It's just that I think there are good people on both sides of the debate who make solid points. It's just like those who debate is there a God or isn't there. I don't think there will ever be definitive proof one way or the other.

Folks can write and hypothesize all they want, but it really gets us no closer to the truth.

Liberals are gonna take over the world its inevitable. Their like Kudzu, they creep in and take it over. I hope there will be a drastic change in our country, but its looking grim and I don't expect things to get any better. We're headed toward a New World Order.
