Life was a Gamble

Dan Reveal
Why aren't my flowers enough to win you away
in the eventide bounty of my daily prayer?
Of course, I could choose to stay right here,
but my dear heart will always live over there.

You must know by now that there's no place like home,
but at least you can caress your own tender heart.
The roll of the dice keeps you moving forward,
and not back to that rusty life, that barefoot trembling on the yellow brick start.

And yet I knew that life was a gamble,
when I once asked God to take away my life's pain.
So downtrodden are the lollipop men who stare death in the face,
who order up another drink when it starts to rain.

You don't even have to read the letter
to have a feeling of what lies inside.
You don't even have to know a person
to feel compassion for what they're trying to hide.

You don't even have to know a person
to feel compassion for what they're trying to hide.

And yet I knew that life was a gamble,
when I once asked God to take away my life's pain.
So downtrodden are the lollipop men who stare death in the face,
who order up another drink when it starts to rain.

"Who order up another drink when it starts to rain." I wish I was like that. Great work, Dan.

Beautiful poem, as always. And how wonderful to see another photo of you. The boyish charm was evident in the piano picutre too, even if you were looking down and seemed more mature.
