Lifetime Television Movies

Remember the days of the TV movie of the week. Every Sunday night all three of the major networks would present their offering of a bad, television movie for our guilty pleasure. You could settle in with your bowl of popcorn and close out your weekend with a nice woman in peril movie, or maybe the disease of the week. Actors that were mostly from television would play out these dramas for two hours of viewing pleasure.

The movie of the week may be gone but we are now able to view those movies on Lifetime Television and the Lifetime Movie Network. No longer must you wait until Sunday night to view the bad movie of the week you can watch these movies every night of the week, and if you are lucky enough to have the Lifetime Movie Network in your cable lineup, all day and all night long.

These channels are geared towards women particularly. Lifetime Television has always been the channel of refuge for a woman looking for some entertaining fluff. When a woman settles in to watch some television they are generally looking for some entertainment without much foundation in reality. Today's woman has a full plate. She is most likely working a full time job, taking care of children and a husband and keeping a household in order. When it comes time to unwind, something mindless is just the ticket to hold her attention.

That is not to say that women are always looking for non-thinking pursuits. Of course, women want news and information and acquire it through other sources. Televisions purpose to a woman is to entertain, make us laugh, make us cry or have us on the edge of our seat. For the most part, entertainment should be just that, entertainment. Entertainment is not learning how a motorcycle is built or learning about history, women will pursue those interests through other means. A book on history or politics, the newspaper or the Internet is more appropriate venues for learning material to a woman.

Of course, this is a generalization, but the smart folks at Lifetime Television have tapped into the psyche of women and geared an entire channel around these theories. And if you take a look at the ratings for Lifetime Television it is clear that it pays to know your audience. So settle in with your bowl of popcorn, put your feet up, laugh, cry and just enjoy all the entertainment without a shred of guilt.
