Lifetime's "William And Kate" Was Deliriously Bad Television, Hope the Wedding is Better

So last night, Lifetime gave us the extra special treat of a two hour docudrama about the couple of the hour, Prince William and his soon to be bride, Kate Middleton. Now I will admit, my expectations for this show might have been a bit lofty, considering the timeliness of the subject, Lifetime would for sure pull out all the stops. But last night's show? Awful, simply awful. From casting, writing, and plot it was just laughably bad.

First let's talk about the casting. Nico Evers-Swindall was picked to play the Prince, and Camilla Luddington played Kate. Luddington was the lesser of two evils in her portrayal of Kate Middleton, but she was a bit thin in her character, I thought. She played it a little too coy and breezy to be believable. You didn't get lost in her role, you just thought of her as an actress being Kate.

However, Nico Evers-Swindall was simply awful as William. Purely horrible. Not only did they not get a good look-alike, which is fine if the acting can make you forget that. In this case both were startling and distracting. Evers-Swindall was forced and robotic in all of his delivery, and movement. It just didn't work from minute one.

Don't even get me started on the casting of Prince Charles and Harry. Horrendous.

The writing was disjointed and a bit "Young Adult Novel," too. Some parts gave me a fit of giggles with how silly it all was. Especially that part after the fashion show where he leaned in for the kiss. Oh my that was bad. It just came out of nowhere...there was no timing or anything written into that to transition from them talking to the kiss. And the way it happened didn't warrant that shocked reaction from Kate. I think "iCarly" has better writing than that.

Maybe Lifetime should have waited a bit to have a better product. I get the whole, "strike while the iron is hot," thing, but this product was just awful. What did you think of "William and Kate?" Did you think it was a good little TV movie, or was it simply a waste of time?
