Light a Candle and Put in One of These Top 10 Romance Movies for Those Over 50

Monica Newton
Romance does not go away just because you are in your 50s. Sometimes you find you even get your second wind in the romance department right about then. Think about it. The kids are grown and you are re-discovering each other or maybe you are in a new relationship as yes, some marriages do end in divorce. Whichever route your life's journey took you on, being romantic does not end with a certain age. Neither does watching romantic movies. Here is a list of my top ten romantic movies and why they made the list:

One: Because I Said So. Diane Keaton is a wonderfully interfering mother who thinks one of her three beautiful daughters needs a little help in the matchmaking department. Not only does she end up finding love in a roundabout way for her daughter, she also ends up, well, you don't really want me to tell you, do you? Get the DVD. Why? Because I said so.

Two: Something's Gotta Give. Now it just so happens that this is another Diane Keaton movie that also stars Jack Nicholson. He's dating her daughter. He's her age. They are attracted to each other. Something's gotta give but you need to watch the movie because I am not spilling the beans.

Three: The Notebook. We all want a love story like this. Eventually age will get to us. Yet somehow, someway, while tucked away in a home, there is someone there reading to us, keeping memories alive for us. Why? The answers are in the notebook that James Garner reads aloud.

Those are my top three but there are others I love and enjoy and would highly recommend for those over 50. There are the wonderful classics such as Gone With the Wind, Casablanca and An Affair to Remember.

Romantic comedies are always big hits. Anytime you can laugh and have a good time with the person you are with, it makes for a better time romantically in this writer's view. In today's day and age, You've Got Mail ranks as a favorite among many well as Must Love Dogs as more and more couples are finding their way to true love through the wonders of the internet.

Still, a moment in time could be caused by simply listening to a radio program like in Sleepless in Seattle. How sweet and romantic was it that a little boy made a call and a woman in another city and state was listening in; fate and romance hand in hand. Or Serendipity, where they actually spend time together and test fate. Now personally? If fate handed me Mr. Right, I would not have taken the chance she did. Think of that lost time. So there are my top 10 romance movies for people over 50 and seeing as I am 46 and date men in that age group, I am highly recommending them as the movies to rent. Light the candles, order in a nice meal and spend an evening alone just the two of you. It is one of the most romantic ways to spend an evening, guaranteed.
