Light of Life Services in Farimont, WV Prove to Be Rewarding

Protestant Faith Can Soothe the Soul

Light of Life World Outreach Center in Fairmont, West Virginia, provided me with a new, yet pleasant experience during the course of this past winter.

I am a confirmed Roman Catholic, but because I lost my automobile last summer, I was not able to join in the offering of thanks to the Lord in any church. That changed when I befriended my bus driver who transports me to dialysis three times each week.

Light of Life World Outreach Center is located at 600 The Dr. in Fairmont. I shared the service with my wife, Nancy, and two children, Jason, 7, and Theresa, 2. I was joined with the driver (my new friend, Wade) and his wife, Becky.

I was accustomed to the silence and general ritualistic service associated with Mass in the Catholic Church. And I love it. But service at Light of Life provided me with a new way of thinking, at least the chance to share a way in which involves much more singing and clapping - more free expression of ideas and personal joy at times.

That is not to say that I will ever turn my back on the First Church. Roman Catholicism is my way, the way I know and love. One day, I hope to be in the position to attend Mass at Immaculate Conception in the future. Meantime, Light of Life showed me a new way to truly love others in prayer and worship during the 90 minute service.

Pastor Frank Bilotta, despite lecturing to some 250 people in a former warehouse facility during each service, recognized myself and my family as new faces. He and his wife greeted us in a warm, loving way, and we appreciated that very much.
Just a couple of weeks after the New Year, he sent a card to my home, wishing us well. I truly considered that to be a wonderful gesture. But the vibes certainly not restricted to Pastor Bilotta. There were too many individuals to count who reached out their hands before and during the services. If only everyones were so kind! The world would indeed be a better place.

As for Wade and Becky, they took the time out of his busy day to provide transportation to the church, which even included services on Christmas Eve. It was wonderful to come together for a few months with people of different faiths in the spirit of our mutual God.

The only time that I had witnessed a church outside of the the Catholic church was when I as courting my current wife. She was a member of the Grace Brethren Baptist Church. I attended the church only to be fair. After all, she attended a Catholic Church with me. So I was quite limited in terms of my position on and experience with 'outside' Protestant churches.

Attending Light of Life was a positive, eye-opening experience. It was good to prove to myself that I am not a bigoted Christian.
My experience, of course, was an enjoyable one and I will always feel comfortable with those folks.
