Light Therapy Products for Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

A very effective treatment for Seasonal Affective Disorder is light therapy. Because the average household does not generate enough light for the recommended 10,000 lux, an alternate light source has to be used. Below are some places you can go to purchase these products and what they have to offer.
Light Therapy Products. This company's website has some great information on the different types of products recommended for Seasonal Affective Disorder, including an overview of Seasonal Affective Disorder. Remember that SAD is not the only condition that uses light therapy as a treatment. And this company offers light therapies for different conditions. All of their lights boast the recommended 10,000 lux needed for treatment. They have portable, desktop, and floor models.

Verilux. This company's website lets you shop by topic so you can click on the topic for Seasonal Affective Disorder and get products tailored to your needs. They also offer a free catalog which would be helpful for comparing prices. I found this site to be more user friendly in finding prices. They don't have as many products as Light Therapy Products but they have more affordable choices and claim energy efficient models.

Full Spectrum Solutions. Their website says their daylight bulbs were voted best by Martha Stewart Body and Soul and that Harley Davidson chose their bulbs to light their showroom. Quite the assortment of recommendations but they do have a wide variety of products. They also have commercial lighting solutions also for the office. Also on their website is a comparison of their products versus Verilux and Apollo. They offer an on-line chat for help in addition to their customer service number. You can also view their catalog on line, as well as testimonials. They are a Better Business Bureau accredited company.

Apollo Light. This is a division of Phillips. Here you can watch a light therapy product video to help you choose the one that is right for you, whether you want one to wake up naturally or one that boosts your energy.

BioBrite. This company invented a light therapy product that is worn on a sun visor. Since that is the only company out of the others listed above that has that, I would be cautious as to the effectiveness of it. BioBrite also has alarm clocks that simulate the sunrise, which is nice in the dark days winter.

In addition to these websites, these products can also be purchased through other Internet sellers like Amazon. There you will also find customer reviews of the products. But please consider that the best place to make a decision whether light therapy is right for you is with your own doctor.
