As you pack up your student to go to college, you will want to consider the lighting in their rooms. Many college students complain about the overhead lights in the dorm room as they are often florescent or insufficient. So to prevent headaches and eyestrain, you will want to provide lighting for their dorm room. Here are some options for dorm room lighting.
String lights: String lights may not seem like an urgent need, but can you imagine getting out of bed and tripping over some one else's backpack that they left out of place. For five dollars or less you can get a string of lights for your dorm that work when you need a minimal amount of light. As far as the decoration element goes, they can be found in many designs that will make give the room a festive effect. Similarly, rope lights will give a more streamlined, tailored look and can be used to line the baseboards for a subtle lighting effect.
Desk lights: Desk light is needed for the purpose of studying. While any desk light will do, a natural spectrum lamp used by artists and by Seasonal Affective Disorder sufferers would be the very best option for someone spending long hours at a desk. Natural spectrum light prevents eye strain and will allow them to study longer.
Clip lights: will come in handy for light night reading and writing long after your roommate has retired for the night. These lights clip onto the headboard and are especially essential if they have loft bed. No one wants to climb down to turn off the lights when they get tired.
Floor lamps: Floor lamps are needed if the student has florescent ceiling lights, especially if these type of lights are grating to them. Floor lights will illuminate large areas and allow you to never need to turn on the overhead lighting. Avoid bringing a halogen light as they can cause fires and most dorms don't allow them for this reason.
