Lakemont park has been around since 1894 when it opened as a Trolley Park. It is the eighth oldest park in the country. It also has the oldest roller coaster in the world which is known as the "Leap the Dips". Believe me, it is an interesting ride. Last summer my six year old grandson talked me into going on with him.
During the holiday season Lakemont Park becomes the beautiful "Lights on the Lake" sponsored by many businesses. These businesses donate the many different light displays with advertisement. These beautiful display of lights attract thousands of visitors every year. They also add more displays each year. These lights cover the 51 acre park.
This year the park opens on Thanksgiving Day and runs though to January 10. The park opens each night at 6pm - 10pm. The cost is $8 per standard passenger car, $15 per commercial van and $25 for a school bus. You can also purchase an unlimited pass for $28.99. They also offer horse drawn carriages and sleighs on December 21st, 22nd, and 23rd. The cost varies for those.
Driving through the park as you enjoy the beautiful lights and decorations you can also turn your radio on to Lakemont's network station and listen to Christmas music. They also have a game while driving through to find and count Rudolf the Reindeers for a chance to win a prize at the end.
After the drive you can visit Santa's Village and check out the model train display. Santa's Village is also a gift shop. This is opened through January 3 of 2010.
Overall it's a great trip and an enjoyable evening for the family and friends. The prices are great and each year they have more to see. If you have the time it's really worth the trip. I suggest getting there early because there is always a line. I guarantee a fun time.. Happy Holidays.
