Lil Flip & Mr. Capone-E's Still Connected: Early Album Review

The Reviewer
Houston, Texas-based Lil Flip is one of the bigger names in all of hip hop, while Mr. Capone-E is one of the biggest names in Chicano hip hop. Together Lil Flip and Mr. Capone-E are back with their second collaborative effort Still Connected. Will Still Connected be as successful as 2006's Connected?

The album opens up with the title track Still Connected. The track clearly states that this album will not be a commercial album. On the track Lil Flip states that this album is for the streets and not for the radio.

Get My Work From The Ese's has a decidedly epic feel to it. The song is one of the more commercial tracks on the album and features and incredibly catchy beat. The track also shows that Lil Flip is still as talented as ever and Mr. Capone-E is more than a competent lyricist.

They Got Me Trapped sounds like the duo took a page straight out of T-Pain's book. The song features a very Autotune heavy vocal on the chorus. The song is fairly catchy and features solid verses.

I'm A Banger also has an epic sound to it. The song features various gun shot sound effects and chopped and screwed vocals. The song is definitely one of the harder tracks on the album yet the song is very well done.

Players Don't Need Love features a vocoder very similar to Roger Troutman. The song is very distinctively California in nature. On the track Mr. Capone-E sounds like a Hispanic Tupac Shakur.

Vato's Got My Back features Lil Flip's Clover G's. The song is not one of the strongest tracks on the album. Lil Flip shines lyrically on the track yet the rest of the effort is unbalanced.

Throw Your H's Up features The Hi Power Soldiers. The song opens with the very familiar scene from Scarface. The Hi Power Soldiers show that they are able to keep up with Lil Flip and Mr. Capone-E on the track.

Times In The Hood sounds like a West Coast carnival. The song is definitely different than the rest of the album yet will appeal to fans of West Coast music.

Wanna Roll With Us is one of the more commercial tracks on the album. The song is very catchy even with all the gangster undertones on the track.

Seeing a black artist and a Hispanic artist working together is refreshing, considering that there could be a great deal of racial tension. Still Connected gets 7.5 out of 10 stars. If you are a fan of Lil Flip and Mr. Capone-E, make sure you pick up their new album, Still Connected, when it is available in stores on February 26.
