Lil Rounds Can Pack Her Bags After April 14 American Idol Performance

Gerald McConway
Lil Rounds is one of the performers that can sing, but surely is not an artist. Each and every week you get the feeling that you are at a karaoke bar when she is singing. She seems to either pick the wrong song or just do a straight up impression of the original song that she is performing that week. The bright spot of the performance was that at least she did not duplicate the Tina Turner fiasco of last week by trying to duplicate Bette Midler's stage moves this week.

Each and every week the judge's tell Lil to pick a modern song, make it her own and show off her talent and each and every week she refuses to do it. This week was no exception as she again picked a heart wrenching song and started it off identically to the original version. By the time she got to the Gospel section of the song, it was far too late.

To be honest, I did enjoy the small section that she did in Gospel, but it was so short and it was still of a tempo that we are just sick of at this point. While that one small section was good, the rest of the song was flat, boring and just plain awful. The one thing that you could depend on from Lil was good vocals. This was one occasion where other than the gospel riffs, she failed at even that.

The good news for Lil is that one other performer put up a performance that was just as weak as hers, Matt Giraud. Both of these individuals will be standing under the lights at the end of the show in fear of being kicked off. If the voters take into consideration past performances, Lil is the easy choice to send home. It is quite apparent that the judge's save will not be used on her and the best advice that she can have on Tuesday night is to start packing so she won't have to look the other contestants in the face on Wednesday after the show.

Good bye Lil. It is a shame that you never listened to the advice that you were given. Each week you promised to bring it the following week and each week you delivered the same karaoke performance that you have the week before. You have talent girl, but you are getting in your own way right now. Hopefully this will be a learning experience and you will still get to the next level.
