Lil Wayne Earns $200 Million for Young Money Rap Clothing Deal: Before Going to Jail

Rich Jones
According to an article on Mediatakeout Lil Wayne has just become one of the wealthiest rappers in the world. Lil Wayne has signed a deal for creation and distribution of his Young Money clothing label that will pay $200 million. The completion of such a Young Money clothing label deal will make Lil Wayne the most well paid Hip Hop artist in Rap today. For those that are unaware, Young Money records is a record label and company that was started by Lil Wayne as a branch off of Cash Money records and the recording deal that he signed with his father Baby at age 14. Lil Wayne formed Young Money records to give younger artists an opportunity to enter Rap and lend to a unique sound that Lil Wayne wanted to create. He signed artists like Nicki Minaj and Drake to create a blend and balanced approach to music making. Young Money essentially blends to rough lyrics of Lil Wayne and blends them with softer singing by Drake. This enables them to create love songs from two points of view and not just one. Young Money has been able to use this method to create a unique sound that has sold millions of records. This is why Lil Wayne was able to score a Young Money clothing label. However, the prospects for a Young Money clothing label deal look bleak when you consider the decline of record sales by both Lil Wayne and Young Money. The Lil Wayne and Young Money album titled Rebirth sold just 150,00 in first-week sales in 2010.

However, the album titled Tha Carter III sold one million copies in the same time period during 2008 according to Billboard charts available via their website at Billboard.com. From the declining sales picture produced by Lil Wayne and Young Money in 2010 we can see that Young Money clothing will likely only benefit Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne has millions of fans and we can be sure that Young Money clothing will generate millions in revenue for both Lil Wayne and Young Money. However, brands such as Sean John and G-Unit also produced clothing lines. Neither of these clothing lines are currently popular and this leaves a huge market open for both Lil Wayne and Young Money. If you are a fan of Lil Wayne, will you purchase his new Young Money clothing? I will not purchase Young Money clothing because trends change fast and I don't like the clothing Lil Wayne wears.
