Lil' Wayne going to jail? Why is Lil' Wayne going to jail? "Lil' Wayne going to jail" headlines stem from Lil' Wayne's weapons charge and a plea bargain. Lil' Wayne was originally charged with 2 count of criminal possession of a weapon and 1 count of criminal possession of a loaded weapon. According to Gather.com, had Lil' Wayne decided he was going to try to fight the charges to avoid going to jail, he could have potentially landed himself 3 ½ years to 15 years in jail.

Lil' Wayne joins the ranks of rappers who have long criminal records. Sometimes rappers like to get a hefty criminal record because it helps their image and gives them "street cred."

The weapons charges stem from an incident which happened over 2 years ago. On July 22, 2007 rapper Lil' Wayne and his bus were searched after a concert in New York City. While searching the bus, police found Lil' Wayne and another guy smoking pot. They also found a loaded .40 caliber gun on Lil' Wayne's person.

This is not Lil' Waynes first run-in with the law. Lil' Wayne has been arrested twice for drug charges.

What is it with the "Lil' Wayne going to jail" headlines that get us so interested in the life of rappers? If it's not "Lil' Wayne going to jail" it's someone else getting busted for some sort of drug or weapons charges.

According to MTV, DJ Khaled said the following when asked about his thoughts about the "Lil' Wayne going to jail" headlines: "He's a brother and he's helped so many people. He's helped so many people, the public, [his] city. Musically, he's helped other artists. He's just a great person on the whole."

Being a good person may help Lil' Wayne out in jail. His 1 year sentence could be reduced to 8 to 10 months for good behavior.

Others aren't as upbeat as DJ Khaled. Santana said he is "pissed off" about the "Lil' Wayne going to jail" situation, and thinks "Weezy shouldn't be going to jail for nothing right now."

Hopefully, the next few months fly by. Lil Wayne's fans will be anxious for his return after he is released from jail. Although unfortunate, maybe the "Lil' Wayne going to jail" incident will help Lil' Wayne from making a mistake that could get himself or others hurt in the future.
