Lil' Wayne: Tha Carter III Review

Peter Calixte
The Carter III is about to be released by the heavyweight rapper Lil' Wayne. Lil' Wayne's Music has taken over the hip hop scene in our recent past. Born Dwayne Michael Carter, Lil' Wayne first came on the scene in 1997 in the group no longer together called the Hot Boys. The Hot Boys formed with Juvenile, B.G., Turk, and Lil' Wayne dispersed when tension between group members and their record label Cash Money. Lil' Wayne put out his first solo album in 1999 with The Block is Hot. He then put two more albums out with little success, until 2004 when he released Tha Carter, which has sold over a million albums to date.

Since the Carter he has released mixtape after mixtape and has also released Tha Carter II. He then finally was getting critic and public respect for his lyrical genius. His lyrics have blown people away and he has seemed to catch the eye of people outside of the hip hop and R&B world. He has done many collaborations with others in the pop and even the rock industry with the Fall Out Boys in their hit single "Arms Race", where he performed with them at the MTV awards.

Right now the Tha Carter III is almost set to be released. The album was suppose to release in 2007 but most of the tracks were leaked on mixtapes so he decided to make another mixtape called Tha Carter: The Leak for the tracks that were leaked out already. He is set to release the album on June 10th, 2008 but his first single off the album is called "Lollipop" and he currently has a video for it that is the number one video on 106 and Park Television show on BET. According to XXL magazine his album The Carter III, was the most highly anticipated album of 2007.

Personally I can't wait for the album to drop. Lil' Wayne has been my favorite artist since he released his first installment of The Carter Series. He has too many punch lines up his sleeves and they don't seem to run out. His flow is very unique and I haven't heard any other rap artist where I can listen to every song I like every single one of them. Hope Tha Carter III can live up to its predecessors because there are a lot of people who have been patiently waiting since 2007 for it to drop.

Wow I'm a Hip-hop head I listen to Jedi Mind Tricks, Little Brother, Atmosphere, Immortal Technique etc etc so you may be asking why did I even bother to buy this cd?!? Same reason you are to see if its any good, and like I thought, it was horrible. I tried to give Wayne a chance, like brother do you have anything left in you, and obviously not. Just like everyone else who knows music will tell you this whole cd lacks intensity/ hunger, it lacks even making sense or a point. I rewind some of the so called "metaphors" and he really is making no sense at all. If you wanna buy something go buy Tha Carter III the leak, sh*t thats better spent money than this trash. Its sad to see what money, commercialization, and cough drugs, will do to a potential great rapper. Greatest Rapper alive negative, "go down with The biggies and The pacs" never. Yes the amount of tracks wayne has recorded over his span is amazing kudos, some of the great tracks hes put out kudos. But even Mr. West couldn't save
