Lilies

Maya Stein
They were not the most vibrant of the supermarket's spring display.
In fact, they hadn't even opened, which is how you spotted them
at all. You saw yourself in their tight cocoons, not quite ready
for the bloom they promised. Overnight, you imagined them
unfurling, silently but in forward motion so that by morning,
the drawbridges of their leaves would let down to reveal
the season's true arrival. Waking, you returned to the vase
expecting everything but what you encountered - the fortress
still locked tight. But something had molted and emerged anew:
an inkling of your own bright promise, the story you would grow into.

Nice. I have lily pictures posted, and can definitely relate with this!
