Limbaugh Vs. McCain: Is this the Real Election Fight?

Steven Michael
The gloves are off. The real fight has begun for the republican primaries. And it doesn't even involved Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee. Outspoken radio personality Rush Limbaugh has taken issue with John McCain mainly because he feels like he isn't a true Republican. Limbaugh has continually bashed McCain because he is seen as an "uninspiring" candidate.

McCain has turned off many Republicans because he is seen as more of a moderate than a Republican. McCain has also flip-flopped on several topics including most notably his stance on Illegal Immigration. His bill he created is seen as an Amnesty bill by most people and Republican leaders have pounded him for it. He also was quoted in saying in regards to creating a border wall "where there's a 20-foot fence, there will be a 21 foot ladder." In fact, prior to the Florida primary, McCain's only wins were in states that allow independents to vote in Republican primaries.

McCain has also taken heat for the negative campaign he has waged on Romney. Limbaugh has criticized McCain for what he feels are straight out lies against Romney and his campaign. McCain complained back in 2000 that President Bush's campaign was negative and said he would not take his campaign that route. Eight years later, his opinion must have changed on negative campaigning as well.

If McCain does get the Republican nod, he would most likely have a better chance at getting some of the independent votes that Clinton and Obama would be fighting for as well. McCain would offer a candidate who would be a little closer to the middle instead of far left. McCain has back off his immigration stance now calling for a little more republican stance and saying he wouldn't offer amnesty to illegal immigrants. So, the republicans might back him as a candidate.

The only problem will be if Barack Obama gets the nod from the Democrats. He is a very charismatic speaker and the age difference would be noticeable. Head to head in debates I would be afraid that John McCain would simply look like and old man stuck in his ways and get run over by the Obama for "change" express. There has been a lot of comparison to Obama and the Kennedy's. Now, with the most recent backing of the Kennedy family, the comparison will only grow.

In the most recent republican debates, McCain has been a little stale and definitely has less charisma as Romney and Huckabee. The best chance for John McCain would be if Hillary Clinton received the Democratic nod because her personality has been criticized in the past as well. She has been seen as cold and insincere. McCain might be able to shine in that fight and come off a little better. He would also have a chance because it would be a man versus woman situation, which even though we are in 2008, many men still would be against a woman in charge. Also, many women are turned off by Hillary and her campaign.

So, Limbaugh can criticize McCain all he wants now, but if he wins the Republican nomination, he will change his tune a little. I guarantee he would much rather see John McCain become President over Hillary Clinton or Obama. Everyone has their favorites right now, but when push comes to shove, the party will back their candidate. They are just going to hope that if it is McCain, he will be going against Hillary.

As a matter of fact, Rush said this just today on his radio program. Anyone but Hillary.....but wait...does it have to be McCain? Maybe it will be someone else. I surely hope so. Good article. Regards,
