Lincoln Park Zoo Seeks Volunteers for 2011 Season

One of the most rewarding volunteer opportunities that I've ever encountered was when I volunteered at the Lincoln Park Zoo, located at 2001 North Clark Street in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. When I volunteered there, although I didn't have direct contact with the animals, because I worked in one of the zoo's retail stores, it was still a great experience, because I learned so much about the different exhibits and was able to attend a lot of their special events. Another cool benefit that I loved when I volunteered there was that I got discounts at their stores and restaurants.

If you can get a group together, they even have volunteer opportunities that are available when they put on special events. I was able to get some of my old high school friends together for one of the zoo's Halloween events, and then again for the "Zoo Lights" event in the winter. We had so much fun and although I have been to "Zoo Lights" many times before, as a paying guest, working the event is so different, because you get to see a lot of the "behind the scenes preparations. If you want more information on how you can volunteer at the Lincoln Park Zoo, you can visit their website for a printable volunteer application that you can fax back to them.

They contact potential volunteers in January of 2011 to let them know what's available for the coming year.
