Lincoln, Rhode Island: Juvenile Stars Take on Twin River Greyhound Park's Best

Some of the greyhounds that performed so well in the recent Juvenile Stakes have now gone into the AA rotation at Twin River Greyhound Park, in Lincoln, Rhode Island. Flying Real Loud, who ran fourth in the finals, took on perhaps the dog at Twin River quickest to the turn in BB's Quick Draw, with a very good outcome. The Juvenile favorite that wound up running second, TK Rocket Man, tried to rebound from his loss against some tough customers, while Flying Lyman and CTW Well Defined, a pair of finalists that ran third and fourth in the big race respectively, tried to tag team two of Twin River's very best in JNB Atomic Bomb and RC Paris La Pooh. And the Juvenile champ, Flying Good Luck, got a dose of reality when he drew in against an A field.

On Friday, August 10th, Flying Real Loud had a six hole against Quick Draw, who occupied the three, and Atatyood, who never takes a backwards step, in the one. Nita's Kinsey was in the eight, an accomplished veteran, so this was no pushover group. Real Loud had won two rounds of the Juvenile qualifying before encountering trouble in his last two, including the finals, where he ran fifth after a backstretch collision. The 62 pound male out of Flying Penske broke sixth and rushed up well, but rather than BB's Quick Draw in front where she almost always is, it was Seecon, who is by no means short. Quick Draw had some bad luck early and could only make it to the corner third, where she stayed behind the duo battling in the front of the pack for the victory. Real Loud showed everyone at Twin River something when he caught Seecon in the stretch and won going away in 30.34 seconds for the 550 yards, especially those who keyed him on top in a superfecta worth over $3,600.

Earlier, in the first half of the Daily Double, Flying Good Luck found out that life in the bigs is no picnic. At a place like Twin River, you have to bring it every night if you are going to be one of the top dogs, and Good Luck, who won the Juvenile in just his sixth official outing at what was formerly Lincoln Greyhound Park, found himself in a Grade A group with such heavyweights as Megawatt Nelson, Bohemian Redix, Pusherism, and Baton. Despite having a three hole, Good Luck had little on this day, as he got into first turn traffic while Baton, from the two hole, zoomed off to win in 30.26. His youth may have hurt him in this particular tilt, but it will serve him well in the future if he learned a lesson from this adventure around the Twin River oval.

TK Rocket Man may be the best of all these Juvenile hounds, as he is always charging forward. He had just enough trouble in the finals to keep him from winning, and he found himself in the blue blanket of the two box later on in this same card, going out against a very balanced group of runners. The Twin River patrons pounded the youngster down to three dimes to the dollar, but he couldn't deliver the goods. Clearing the turn in decent shape behind Hi Kervin, Jetwave, and J's Eclipse, the 65 pound son of Dodgem By Design twice was blocked as he tried to make his move on the leaders and had to settle for third place. Eclipse managed to run down Kervin in the stretch, as the black bitch won her eighth race of the year.

At night, everyone anxiously awaited the feature ninth. Atomic Bomb had just been beaten by RC Paris La Pooh last time out, and now Flying Lyman and CTW Well Defined were in the stew as well to make things quite interesting. There was oodles of early speed just outside of Atomic Bomb, who had the five box, as the dasher Hamparsum was in the six and rapid breaker Tapco Groove was in the seven. Paris La Pooh had the eight, with Lyman in the three and Defined in the two. Lyman had lots of AA experience prior to the Juvenile, a bit more than Well Defined had. Both of the pups acquitted themselves well in this contest, as Lyman cleared second to Atomic Bomb at the turn and gave him a run, falling two lengths short of the great greyhound at the wire. Well Defined was just a single length in back of Lyman, three in the rear of Atomic Bomb, who avenged his loss to La Pooh and chalked up victory number sixteen on the season, still the best sprinter at Twin River until perhaps one of these kids rises up and someday takes that title away from the three year old star.
