Lindsay Lohan, Clay Aiken Announce They're Gay

Gay Hollywood: Who's Left to Emerge from the Closet?

Angie Mohr CA CMA
Lindsay Lohan confirmed Monday on-air that she has been seeing constant companion Samantha Ronson for "a very long time." DJ Ted Stryker had asked Lindsay Lohan on his syndicated talk show "Loveline" how long she and Ronson had been going out. Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson had been seen and photographed together constantly for several months. Although rumors abounded about the extent of the couple's relationship, neither Lindsay Lohan or Ronson acknowledged it until yesterday. Lindsay Lohan's publicist announced to the Associated Press on Monday that Lohan and Ronson are not engaged to be married.

Also on Monday, singer and actor, Clay Aiken, announced that he is, indeed, gay. Clay Aiken finished as the runner up on American Idol's 2003 series. He has since become a multi-platinum artist and currently appears in Broadway's Monty Python's Spamalot. Clay Aiken recently became a father when long-time friend and producer, Jaymes Foster, gave birth to Parker Foster Aiken. Rumors have circulated about Clay Aiken's sexuality since his appearance on American Idol, but Aiken has chosen until now to not comment on those rumors. Aiken appears on the cover of the most recent issue of People Magazine, released Wednesday, holding his infant son. The headline of the article is "Yes, I'm Gay."

With these two new announcements in the entertainment world, who is left to come out of the entertainment industry closet?

1. Paris Hilton

What's left to say about Paris Hilton that hasn't already been said?

Rumors about Paris Hilton dating Kate Moennig have been circulating since January. Paris Hilton has been seen out with Moennig holding hands and kissing. With Paris Hilton, though, it is just as likely a ploy for attention as a true gay relationship.

2. Kevin Spacey

Kevin Spacey is notoriously famous for keeping his personal life private and has never publicly been seen in the company of a significant other, either male or female. Kevin Spacey played the role of Jim Williams, a gay antiques dealer in Savannah Georgia who shoots his young lover, in Clint Eastwood's Midnight in The Garden of Good and Evil. Midnight was filmed in Savannah, and Kevin Spacey spent several weeks exploring the gay scene here prior to and during shooting.

3. Woody Harrelson

Woody Harrelson is another actor who keeps his personal life to himself. Although he has been married since 1985, first to Nancy Simon, then to Laura Louie, his sexual orientation has been questioned repeatedly. Harrelson lives in Costa Rica when he's not filming.

Actors and entertainers announce their sexual orientation publicly for many reasons. Clay Aiken reported to People Magazine that he didn't want his son to grow up telling lies and hiding. Michael Stipe of the band REM came out of the proverbial closet because he realized that he could be an example to gay teenagers. Those who are still in Hollywood's super-sized closet may or may not ever publicly announce their sexuality, but if they do, it will be on their own terms.

Interesting article! I always thought Clay Aiken was gay, but everyone else was like "no, he's just a sensitive single man." Sensitive single man. Hehe!! I should've known. They only exist in literature! Again, well written!

Sexuality isn't quite so cut and dry, in my opinion, as to say that one relationship with a same sex partner qualifies you as homosexual. In any case, I wish them, and everyone else happiness in their pursuit of love and companionship. :)

Not only a bitch, but obviously a liar.

if this is your attitude, then you have no friends who are gay/lesbian.

Excuse my flippant remark, but I stand by it. I don't hate homosexual people; I have friends who are gay/lesbian. But the acceptance of this "alternative lifestyle" by a supposedly "enlightened" society is damaging our country. Our children are being indoctrinated to accept this lifestyle as normal, and with the epidemic divorce rate (even among Christians), the traditional nuclear family is becoming a rarity. We've wandered away from the standards that God has set for us, the moral values this country was founded on. Small wonder this country is such a mess!

Honestly...I don't think Lohan has a clue about what or who she wants to be....

I don't really care what people's sexuality is it, I have my own and that is what I care about
