Lindsay Lohan Did the Crime so Let Her Do the Time

Crime Equals Consequences, Celebrities Should Not Be Above the Law

Ms. Marie
Any non-celebrity who broke the law would get sentenced and have to do the time. All this media attention over an out of control, disrespectful brat is a waste of time. There are more important issues that need to be covered. Lindsay Lohan was slapped on the wrist with 90 days in jail, so what, lock her up and forget about it.

All her fake tears in the court were sickening, and to prove she thinks she is above the law and can do what she wants she actually tried to weazle her way out of things by telling the Judge that she thought, or didn't know, that if she went to a "court ordered meeting" twice in one week it would count and she could miss the next week so she could work. What? If a court order says you are to attend a meeting "once a week" that is what it means, period, end of story. Yet, Lindsay Lohan had the audacity to try and worm her way around it and basically change the courts order to fit and meet her own work schedule.

How many people charged with crimes, they did or didn't commit, and sentenced get to rearrange a court order to "fit" their schedule. What a joke, that alone should be a crime that has some consequences. This Lindsay chick may be young and have a serious drinking and drugging problem, but there are thousands of others out there sufferig with addiction too. Addiction is a horrible disease, but it's not an excuse to break the law, endanger the live's of others and make a mokery of our justice system.

The media needs to cover stories about everyday teens and young adults that are victims of the Pharmacuetical company's toxic drugs that doctors all too eager to write prescriptions for all in the name of a profit. Yes, Lindsay may be addicted to prescription drugs, alcohol and the illegal drug cocaine as well, but addiction and crimes are treated independently in different venues.

Now, the media and Lindsay's dad are talking about getting her help while in jail for her prescription addiction, fine she needs it, but if the courts help her they should be required to help others too.

How many addicts are locked up? What form of help do they get while in jail? When sentenced for a crime it is to serve time as a consequence for one's actions or wrong-doings, breaking a law. It would be great if there was some sort of drug and alcohol rehabilitation attached to a prison or jail sentence, think of all the lives that could save and change for the better.

Most adults with addictions cannot be forced into any type of rehab; thus the saying, "They [the addicted] have to hit rock bottom and ask for help themselves." Well, for the average person who reaches that point and desperately wants help they may have to wait for an "opening" in a program and hope they qualify at the very least for the "sliding scale" payments if they don't have the money to pay to get sober.

And we have this celebrity child, Lindsay Lohan who has the financial means to get sober, a family that is practically begging her to get help and yet she chooses to keep doing what she's doing; like any other parent that fears for their child's life Mr. Lohan will have to wait until Lindsay surrenders to her addiction and asks for help. Sounds harsh, but that is the sad reality for many a parents. Meanwhile, let Lindsay do her time, if she gets out and commits another DUI or other crime, like possession of drugs, sentence her again and lock her up.

Stop giving her all this media attention, Lindsay Lohan is no different than any other parent's child. MSN, Larry King Live and other media outlets need to give some attention to average, everyday parents who fear for their child's life. If you can have a celebrity dad, Michael Lohan, on your program why not invite other parents on your show who need help too.

In conclusion, this country needs to change the laws so families can get help for their loved ones with addictions, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation needs to be made available and affordable for everyone not just the rich and famous. This is my humble opinion about the whole Lindsay Lohan charade. Celebrities are not above the law.
