Lindsay Lohan Fails Drug Test

Lindsay Lohan is admitting, finally, what others have thought about her, suspected about her or have claimed to know about her: She has a substance abuse problem.

Lindsay Lohan failed at least one of her random drug tests and says she is "prepared to face the consequences". Which, of course, is mighty big of Lindsay since she will be facing them whether she is prepared or not.

People Magazine quotes Lindsay as saying, "Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn't go away over night. I am working hard to overcome it and am taking positive steps forward every single day and doing what I must do to prevent any mishaps in the future."

Again, this is admirable of Lindsay. But, has no one told Lindsay Lohan that one of the "positive steps forward" she should consider is to stay out of nightclubs? Change her friends? Rearrange her lifestyle and drastically alter her habits?

All of these "steps" are what is required of someone who is serious about their recovery from substance abuse. Yet, even after she does all of the above, the real work of recovery doesn't begin until she faces and roots out the inner demons, if you will, which compel and sustain addictive behavior.

There are many people in Hollywood who are pulling for Lindsay Lohan and want her to get well. Many continue to believe in her and stand up for her honor. There are equally as many who believe she is a hugely talented actress.

As a consumer of her product, movies and films, I've never seen Lindsay Lohan as a "hugely talented" actress. But, then, she's still quite young and trying to find her way. I would agree that she's quite beautiful and "seems" to have a marketable talent. But, at the rate she's going, it's all really moot.

I think Lindsay needs to give Robert Downey, Jr. or Drew Barrymore a call. Both have faced similar issues in their lives and have succeeded in overcoming them. She can too. Lindsay Lohan has much more of a leg up on these matters than the average person. She has the under girding of an industry that would welcome her back with open arms and reward her handsomely if she can turn her life around and begin to produce good work.

Unfortunately, Lindsay Lohan is still stuck in the self-destructive loop of addiction and can't see the proverbial forest through the trees. But, addiction does that to you. If Linday Lohan stands any chance of beating it she's going to have to learn how to zig twice as long as she has zagged.

While they go into this with their eyes wide open, I wonder what makes them take a risk of such drastic proportions knoowing it will take them down if not under.
