Media Frenzy Ensues as Lindsay Lohan Begins Her Jail Sentence

The day media outlets have been anxiously waiting for has finally arrived: Lindsay Lohan surrendered and began her jail sentence this morning. Unfortunately, to the dismay and disappointment of many, Judge Marsha Revel ordered all cameras to stop rolling right before the 24 year old actress was cuffed.

The judge made it clear that there would be no house arrest or early release for Lohan, however the actual jail time Lohan has to serve is still up in the air. Lohan was sentenced to 90 days in jail, however as per Sheriff Department rules, inmates who have no previous record of violence do not usually serve their full sentence due to overcrowding. According to TMZ, it is expected that Lohan will only serve about 23 days.

Lohan was arrested twice in 2007 on charges of driving under the influence. As part of her probation she was ordered to attend a May hearing which she missed. Per the request of the judge Lohan, who had narrowly escaped jail time, was fitted for an alcohol level monitoring device. She was also ordered to attend weekly alcohol education classes. After missing seven of these classes Judge Revel decided there was nothing left to do but put the starlet in jail.

However, leave it to Lohan to make the courtroom her stage. Being an infamous Tweeter, Lohan joked about her jail sentence yesterday and also slammed her estranged father. That of course didn't stop him from making an appearance at the L.A. County courthouse and yelling out "We love you Lindsay!" as she was being taken away. The actress was also showered with glitter by fans as she walked into the courtroom to surrender.

At this point bad publicity seems to be better than no publicity for the actress, but one has to wonder: aren't people sick of this yet? Apparently the answer is no. Since the announcement of her sentence last week, the internet has been " loco" for Lohan. Google, Yahoo, and Twitter have all felt the impact as Lohan's surrender is one of the top stories of the day. Furthermore, television networks like E! have played specials chronicling the disastrous path of the once adorable Disney star.

Lohan is no stranger to the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, CA. The fallen star had a brief stint in the facility in 2007 after being arrested for drunk driving and cocaine possession. Other celebrities to have graced the Lynwood facility with their presence include Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Khloe Kardashian, and Michelle Rodriguez.

Here's hoping that Lindsay's new mugshot is better than the last one.
