What would it take to get started you asked?
Very simple! Just let me tell you!
If you have a yard or outside space that can have a line put up, then you simply can start shopping around at places such as hardware stores, Lowe's, or Home Depot for one. There are many variations of outside lines.
Some are double lined, some are pulley type systems, and some are round. You just have to pick a style that will fit your needs and your yard space. Once you get it placed, you are all ready to get started with hanging your clothes to dry in the sun! Just simply pin one end of the garment and then the other! It's hung now and ready to dry.
If you live in an apartment or townhouse that makes it nearly impossible for you to dry your clothes in the outdoors, there are still options for you! Many companies now make retractable clotheslines. They are simple to install and come in many various lengths. There are clothes racks that can mount inside a closet and not take up much space at all.
A newer company has now got a dryer that can stand up inside of your shower or bath tub and be moved and folded for easy storage when not in use. You have so many choices when you get to pick an indoor dryer. There can be metal or wooden ones.
When you start line drying your clothes, you will soon realize that your clothes will have more life. When you use a dryer all the time for your clothes, it starts to break down the life of the elastic in the waistband of underwear and socks. When you calculate in all the extra money that you spend to repurchase underwear and socks and the money that you are saving by using the line and not the dryer, you are going to be amazed!
Even if this all sounds complicated, give it a try. I promise that it is not as bad as you would think it would be. It is simple, easy, and saves you money!

Post a CommentI love line drying in the summer! There's less now because my kids are grown but it's still enjoyable. When we had barn swallow around it was fun; as I hung the clothes they'd be swooping around doing their arial ballet:)
THanks for the comments!
I line dry and my electric bill was only $33 because of it.
Great article! I like all the detail on types of lines, etc. I may have to give this a try.
I so need to stop using my dryer! my clothesline is laying outside still from JAn. waiting to be installed. how sad is that? thanks for reminding me to get that put up once and for all!
Sure Heather! I live in an apartment and it's something we do most all the time! I'm just now seeing this, but I will get to you ASAP!
I agree with you and Kelly. In the UK, we line dry more than in America. That's how I grew up and clothes did last for longer.

Very interesting. I certainly would like more info for those options you mentioned for ppl in townhomes. Maybe you could dig it up for me, tell me where I can find out more and pricing and whatnot?
I line dry everything and love it!
