Lines from a Lost Poem

Through the Ages

Keith Mills
Carry the passages to the people
Let them read with their lips
What the poet saw and foretold
For he gave unto you a shibboleth
So you might enter tomorrow anew.

It was said of old
That there was an Iron Age
A Bronze Age
A Golden Age too sumptuous to detail
Too, there were the Dark Ages
And perhaps not often enough an age of madness
As we came with the speed of light upon the Space Age
And then the Computer Age
And now the Age of Narcolepsy.

Some suffer narcosis in the Medicated Age
For we must deal with all kinds of killers
Blunt emotion often carries the day;
Risperdal helped a man get to the other side
Where he was able to help people not unlike himself.

Carry the passages back and forth
For calamities will fall upon you
And those you love, who may, God forbid,
End up institutionalized
While you have a good day.
