Lingenfelter Performance Engineering has been modifying Corvettes for 28 years. Corvettes weren't at the top of their game performance wise when LPE first started tuning; a fact that may have motivated its creation. The last models years of the most premium C3 Corvettes from 1975-1984 made roughly 200hp. Previous models had made over 350hp. Since then, LPE has been boosting performance to produce world-class automobiles. Although he passed away in 2003 due injuries sustained from a racing accident, 13-time NHRA event winner John Lingenfelter's legacy lives on as the company produces machines that perhaps even he himself had not imagined.
LPE currently offers performance packages for the C6 Corvette Z06 ranging from 610 to 800 horsepower. LPE not only adds several performance boosting parts, but also tastefully light appearance orieneted pieces-just enough for onlookers to recognize that this is no ordinary 'Vette. Most notable is the "Lingenfelter badge placed just above the Z06 badge on the front quarter panels. Astonishingly, the packages come with a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. At last, the age old question of "Will this void my warranty?" need not be uttered by performance junkies.
It seems that some of LPE's engineers don't think there's such a thing as too much power. These are the types of fellows that look at the Lingenfelter 427 CID 800 HP Twin Turbo package, smile, and then release a thundering, Tim Allen-esque "More Power!"
The result: the 1300 horsepower the Lingenfelter 427 TT 2006 Z06 Corvette. That's 1,100 horsepower on premium 93 octane fuel, and 1,300 horsepower on C16 race gas and 23 psi of turbo boost. The LPE website claims a calculated (though not tested) top speed of 300mph "Based on horsepower and drag of the vehicle." The Lingenfelter TT Z06 produced a mind-numbing 226.25 mph standing mile run. The closest LPE Corvette to ever do that required 6.5 more miles of open asphalt to do so.
While the 1,300 horsepower Lingenfelter TT Z06 is more than potent, one wonders if LPE has plans for the 2009 Corvette ZR1 which rolls out of the GM factory carrying a 650hp LS9 power plant-already a 150 horsepower increase over the "normal" Z06's 500hp LS7 motor.
The figures are jaw-dropping, but there's a small catch. The Lingenfelter 427 Twin Turbo Z06 is not available yet and pricing has not been announced. Until then, the 1000hp Hennessey Twin Turbo Viper, available for about $200,000, owns the title of Top Notch Tuned American Supercar.
