Linger

He says I love you,

but what does that mean?

Does he know the words,

or does he feel its message?

And my heart tries to respond,

but its hands can't grasp

love's definition.

And my words are hollow

as I say

those three, little words,

and his thoughts reflect mine.

Do I know the words?

Do I feel its essence?

Love is the stranger

that rarely visits my heart,

and it slips

through my fingers.

And I'm left, waiting

for love to return,

but would my heart remember?

Or would words fall

into the void

that drank

all my emotions away?
