Lingering Presence

C. Love

A bond that transcends
All distance and time
Though no longer tangible
Ever present in mind

Every moment spent together
Etched deep into my heart
Missing you profoundly
Though you had to part

Desiring some way
Time could be redeemed
To make the most of each moment
Savor your essence and glean

The misconception of youth
Thinking we would live forever
To capitalize every instant
Would have been my endeavor

Loss and sorrow overwhelmed
Physical pain consumed
Cried past the point of tears
Fought depression that loomed

Angry with our most High
How could He let this be
How could a good and loving God
Allow you to be taken from me

If based on merit or credentials
Why not me instead of you
With my best friend vanished
What am I supposed to do

As the years have rolled by
A whole within still remains
Sadness reverberates inside it
With mention of your name

If in need of help with a decision
Confused or don't' know what to do
Unsure of who to trust or turn to
Wishing I could talk to you

Every now & then in the car
Walking or reading a book
It's as if you were there
I have to take a second look

At times think I received a message
Delivered on your behalf
Did I hear you whisper my name
Was that you I faintly heard laugh

As I live both lives for us
Hoping I can make you proud
I find comfort in those moments
When your spirit can be found
