Linkin Park Releases New Single, Album to Follow

After a nearly four year absence, Linkin Park is back on top of the charts once again. Their new single, "What I've Done", debuted at #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart and at #7 on the national charts this week. This is the sixth consecutive #1 single for the six member group from Los Angeles, California.

Shortly after midnight on April 2nd 2007, "What I've Done" was released on iTunes, with its video debut hours later on MTV. The video, directed by Linkin Park DJ Joseph Hahn, was filmed in the desert in California. Featuring clips of a performance of the song, the video also addressed a variety of issues including racism, famine, Nazism, pollution, war, drug abuse and stem cell research. The video is now available for free viewing on Linkin Park's YouTube channel, as well as seven episodes of LPTV, which documents the band's many tours to promote their previous album "Meteora".

The single's parent album, "Minutes To Midnight", is slated for release May 15th 2007 in the United States. The band chose multiple Grammy winner, Rick Rubin, to produce the record. Rubin has produced albums for everyone from Run-DMC to Johnny Cash to Slayer to Andrew Dice Clay.

The new album showcases a different sound for Linkin Park. The band's previous albums, "Hybrid Theory" and "Meteora", brought a unique mixture of rock and hip-hop. This new sound is evolved, while still featuring typical Linkin Park guitar riffs that will make it recognizable to fans. Featuring vintage drums, dance beats and even some opera, the new sound will appeal to a broader audience. "It was a conscious decision," said vocalist Chester Bennington. "We didn't want to make the trilogy. We didn't want it to sound like Hybrid Theory or Meteora." The album, currently available for pre-sale orders, will offer an additional making of DVD.

Linkin Park will hit the road once again this summer to promote the new record. This will be their first tour since 2004 and are scheduled to visit several cities both in the US and around the world. They are also set to headline one day of the Bamboozle music festival, a two-day event with over 200 bands in May 2007 in New Jersey. Following the Bamboozle, the band will head overseas to play nine shows in Europe. Tentatively scheduled for July and August, Linkin Park will revive the Projekt Revolution festivals. Projekt Revolution, started by the band in 2002, has showcased a multitude of artists and genres, featuring names like Korn, Mudvayne, Cypress Hill, Xzibit, and Snoop Dogg. The 2007 Projekt Revolution tour is in the planning stages at the moment, with dates and locations yet to be announced. So far, My Chemical Romance, Placebo, and Taking Back Sunday are a few of the acts confirmed to be on board. The Projekt will visit several outdoor venues, offering multiple stages and many other activities and vendors.
