I will say that me and Lion Brand Homespun yarn have a love hate sort of a relationship. At first it was more on the hate side but it has grown a bit more to the love side over the years. I crochet and I'll add that if you are new to crocheting Homespun yarn is not a yarn you should start with.
The yarn has a very wavy style and that alone causes it to be hard to tell a stitch from a wave. What may be only one stitch might look like 2 or 3 because of the wavy nature of this yarn. It can even be a bit difficult for an experience crocheter so a beginner might want to practice on straight yarns a bit before delving into Homespun yarn projects.
Homespun yarn is a very soft bulky yarn. It is made of 98% acrylic and 2% polyester. The best part is it can be washed in the washer. My family members have all said they have washed their afghans several times and they still look great. It makes very durable projects.
One problem I found is that when you cut the end of the yarn it will come undone. It turns into a frizzy long puff. I have not had any problems with a finished project but if you do a project with the ends exposed you could end up with a frizzy fray and not the pretty intact wave you see. Though, you will not have an issue with a completed project without exposed ends.
I have used Lion brand Homespun yarn to make afghans and the yarn makes them beautiful, soft and very warm. I also made a cute long sleeve shrug with the left-overs. It works up really nice and easy, with the exception its texture makes it hard to see stitches. But, the color selection of Homespun is great and I plan to buy more when I find another project and, of course, when I see it on sale again.
