Lion King Star Shannon Tavarez Passes Away

11-year old Shannon Tavarez, who played young Nala in the Broadway production of The Lion King, succumbed to acute myeloid leukemia on Monday. Tavarez had a multitude of supporters, including Alicia Keys, Rihanna and 50 Cent, but ultimately, her doctors were unable to find a bone-marrow match. Tavarez joined the Broadway company last September, but quit in April 2010 due to her illness.

In July, Keys and Rihanna heard of Tavarez's plight and asked their fan bases to register as bone marrow donors. 50 Cent and G-Unit filmed a PSA for the young girl, urging individuals to register to become donors as part of the nationwide initiative "Get Swabbed to Save a Life," an endeavor that brought in 4,000 new donors.

Tavarez's co-star, Alton Fitzgerald White (Mufasa), was planning a holiday concert on December 13th as a benefit for Tavarez. There is no word whether this concert will still take place.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Shannon Tavarez's family.

Demi Lovato Quits Tour, Heads to Rehab

The Disney darling, 18, quite suddenly left her tour with the Jonas Brothers and entered rehab for "personal issues." With the events that have allegedly haunted Lovato's past and present, the decision is not a surprising one.

As a child, Lovato was verbally bullied so badly that she chose to be home schooled. She has also allegedly battled with bulimia, as well as self-mutilation. Her break-up with Joe Jonas, a whirlwind promotion for Camp Rock 2 and the overall pressure of her profession was just too much for the singer. According to E!Online, when Lovato got into a scuffle with a backup dancer in an airport and made threats to Joe Jonas' latest flavor of the month, Twilight's Ashley Green, she left the tour to "take responsibility" for her actions.

It's unsurprising that the pressure has proven overwhelming and it's surprising it doesn't happen more often to young people in this industry. Best of luck, Demi.

Quick News: New Jobs

* Leonardo DiCaprio has been recently cast in the adaptation of Erik Larson's bestselling non-fiction book The Devil in the White City. DiCaprio will play H.H. Holmes, a serial killer who's believed to have murdered at least 200 people in Chicago, all during the 1893 World's Fair. Originally, Tom Cruise had optioned the rights to the book in 2003, but DiCaprio eventually acquired the screen rights and will not only star, but produce the film. Looks like an exciting undertaking!

* The latest music video featuring Miley Cyrus won't likely cause as much a ruckus as her previous music videos, but it might make people scratch their heads a little. The music video from Cyrus' producing team Rock Mafia showcases Miley and Gossip Girl's Kevin Zegers. The music video, which was apparently "a life-changing experience" for Miley, takes the viewer on a twisted road full of a mysterious, maybe dead Miley, several nasty car accidents and no apparent resolution. See for yourself here.
