Lip Balm Breakdown: What Are the Best?

K. F. Lynn
There are about a million lip products out there, and even more "rules" for when to wear which ones. Rules? We laugh at rules! You don't need to pick out a bold lipstick or even a lip gloss for every day of the week. Did you know that most lipsticks and lip glosses actually dry your lips out more, even those that claim to be "moisturizing"? On most days, you don't need anything more than a good, deep-conditioning lip balm. The lip balm market is pretty saturated, so how can you know which ones are the best? I've broken down four of the greatest for you to check out!

Burt's Bees Lip Balms

Those of you who are familiar with the line may be asking, "which ones?" to which I have to reply, "all of them!" The original Burt's Bees lip balm is the most popular seller, as it contains peppermint oil that leaves the lips feeling fresh and tingly. However, the Honey and tinted Pomegranate flavors run close behind. Burt's Bees balms leave your lips feeling highly moisturize and go for about $3 in any drug store.

Korres Lip Butter

This may be a little pricier (Sephora, $10), but is worth the extra cash. It comes in a little jar in different scents and tints. Used best as an overnight lip treatment, slather a healthy portion on before bed and wake up to plump, beautifully revived lips. The best thing about this stuff? If you buy a tinted butter, it can doubleas a blush! Two products for the price of one.

EOS Lemon Drop
EOS products can be found at any drugstore or beauty supply store like Ulta. If you love lemonade, Lemon Drop is the perfect addition to your purse! The container is egg-shaped so Lemon Drop is a little awkward to carry in your pocket, but for about $3.50 this stuff is hard to pass up. Use it daily for a sweet, lemonade lip-twist that keeps your lips heavenly soft.

Yes to Carrots
For something a little out of the norm, Yes to Carrots is a great, quirky lip pick-me-up. The carrot flavored is a favorite, and though you may not expect it the taste is actually quite sweet! Other flavors include mint, berry, melon and citrus. These great little lip balms add moisture, color and shine'"a great three-in-one package that packs a punch and has a nice smooth, non-waxy texture.
