Liposuction Alternatives

Is There an Alternative to Liposuction?

Herman Cruz
According to MayoClinic.com, liposuction is the suctioning of fat out of your body by a cosmetic surgeon. The surgeon makes a small incision in the targeted area and injects a solution of saline water, lidocaine and epinephrine to lessen blood loss during the procedure. He then inserts a cannula under your skin and suctions out fat and fluid from your body. Either local or general anesthesia is required. Side effects are pain, bruising and swelling. Because of these side effects of a liposuction procedure, new, less invasive alternatives are being used that can contour your body without surgery

Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is a popular procedure that involves holistic elements, medications and amino acid injections that dissolve fatty tissues. The specialist administers the injections into the middle layer of your skin to block the cells that build fat while stimulating the receptors that break it down. This is virtually painless, as the needle that is used to administrate the amino acids is very small. Patients usually return to their daily routines after the treatment. A little bruising and swelling may occur but will go away a few days after treatment. Docshop.com comments that meotherapy hasn't caused any documented deaths and the side effects are minimal.

Lipodissolve

This treatment reduces cellulite and targets areas where getting rid of fat is difficult even after exercise and diet. Lipodissolve is a non-surgical procedure used for areas like the arms, belly, chin and legs. Enzymes and medications are injected to the targeted areas; fat dissolves into a liquid and is flushed naturally over a period of weeks through the urine. Usually, patients require two to three sessions to achieve their desired look. Side effects such as bruising, skin irritation and lumps can occur, but they are temporary and go away after a few days. According to docshop.com, in some unusual cases a serious reaction to the solution has developed.

Thermage

Approved by the FDA in 2006, thermage is used to reduce skin laxity in areas of the body such as the abdomen, arms, thighs and buttocks. This laser-based treatment heats your skin's outer layer and regenerates the collagen deep inside. It released adio frequencies and your skin feels a mild heat sensation. Collagen smooths your skin's outer layers and fills in the wrinkles. Consequently, your skin becomes tighter, more youthful-looking and toned. Collagen will grow for six months after a thermage procedure, showing a more dramatic improvement of your skin's texture and tone.

Diet and Exercise

The healthiest, oldest and most natural alternative to liposuction is exercise and diet. A diet consisting of fruits, vegetables and lean meat three times a day will surely make an overall difference to your weight and energy level. You can also snack on raw vegetables, fruits and nuts in between meals to boost your metabolism. These dietary changes should also make it easier for you to become motivated to exercise. Exercising several days a week will help tighten and tone your loose skin and reduce the appearance of cellulite without your having to go through a dramatic procedure like liposuction.

Lipomassage

Lipomassage is another non-invasive treatment that reduces cellulite and breaks up fat. According to docshop.com this is a great alternative to liposuction, working for all body types and sizes. Injections, drugs or incisions aren't involved. Each session takes about an hour with no down time or recovery time. Lipomassage consists of motorized rollers that smooth and break down the fat that's trapped within the skin. They first roll the skin inward to target the excess fat and slim the skin. Then, the rollers move outward so the loose skin areas are firmed. Lastly, the rollers roll up the skin at different speeds so the body is contoured and shaped. Lipomassage also flushes out toxins and improves blood flow while stimulating the body's natural production of collagen.
