Liquid Web Hosting Review

Tom Servo

I recently decided to switch hosts. I've been with Go Daddy for a couple of years, but decided it was time for a change. I had two hosting plans with Go Daddy, each hosting a slew of domains, and while I can't say I had any horrific experiences with them, I did run into some technical problems recently that made me think there had to be something better out there.

I don't want to get into the specifics of the technical problems I was experience with Go Daddy, but they were directly related to their shared servers and there was no way for me to resolve them without switching hosts or upgrading to a much more expensive plan. So, I started looking around for another host.

Another webmaster suggested Liquid Web, but warned me they were pricey. I decided to check them out anyway, just out of curiosity. I actually found their shared plans to be quite reasonable. Their standard web hosting plan is $14.95 per month and includes two free domains - obviously, the cost goes down if you purchase by the year. It's a decent plan for anyone who is running a few small, mostly text-based websites - think, WordPress blogs, company websites, forums, etc…

From there, you can move up to the professional plan, or a VPS or dedicated server plan. They also have a thing called, "smart servers," which I don't fully understand the benefit of but they seem to fall somewhere between a VPS and dedicated server in terms of capabilities and price. If you're wondering what their most expensive plan is, it's their top-of-the-line quad processor multi-core server at $499 per month. Of course, only multimedia websites with a huge amount of traffic would need something on that scale.

I decided to go with their standard plan, knowing that if I need to, I can always upgrade. So far, I am happy with the performance. My sites seem to load a lot faster now than they did when I was using Go Daddy. I have to contact Liquid Web's tech support a few times, and they have been quite helpful. I really like how I can live chat their tech support from Liquid Web's website anytime of day. I always hated have to call Go Daddy on the phone or wait for an email response.

All in all, I'd have to say Liquid Web is a great host. I really can't find anything wrong with them. Sure, they're not as cheap as the big hosts, like Go Daddy and Blue Host, but the headache you'll eventually and inevitably spare yourself makes it well worth it.
