Box Jellyfish - The Box Jellyfish is an extremely lethal animal within the waters of Australia. It is found on the coast running the length of the Great Barrier Reef. It has a square body with extremely lethal toxins on its tentacles. If stung the victim needs immediate medical attention as cardio-respiratory functions may cease in mere minutes depending on the point of contact. Mouth to Mouth resuscitation and first aid procedures will be necessary as soon as possible. The Box Jellyfish is only present in Australia's waters from November until March.
Salt Water Crocodile -These large animals are found on the Northern Coast of Australia. These crocodiles are the largest reptile in the world and can be seven meters in length and are extremely powerful. Salt Water Crocodiles will attack anything that moves and can be difficult to spot as they like to stay near the bottom of the river of ocean. Obey all signs and ask the locals if it's safe before swimming in any body of water.
Sydney Funnel Web Spider - This Spider is only found in and around Sydney, New South Wales. It is a large spider up to 4.5cm for just the body, and is a deep black. Although, there has not been a reported death since 1980 it's important to take a bite seriously if subjected to one. They have been known to wander into houses, so be aware.
Brown Snake - This snake averages approximately 1-2 metres long and is an extremely venomous snake. It is also one of Australia's more deadly creatures as it can cause death to a victim quickly if subjected to their venom, and left untreated.
Great White Shark - The Great White Shark is found on all coasts in Australia and averages 3.5 to 5 metres in length. Their average weight is 1300 kg, and they have a mouth full of 2800 teeth. The Great White has an extremely keen sense of smell, especially when there is blood in the water. This helps them locate their prey where they will then attack once and then wait for their prey to bleed to death. Although, the Great White is extremely powerful and dangerous there are less shark deaths than expected. Many beaches have shark nets to protect people, but also take precaution in canals which are commonly used by these creatures.
Remember, there are many dangerous creatures in any country. Although, this is a not a full list it is meant to give you some idea of what to expect. As long as you are cautious and use your common sense you will have an amazing and unforgettable time in the land down under!
