If you have something to say online, what better way than through your very own blog? Blogging software programs exist for every type of user, including those who want to host their own blog. Whether you just want to earn a little extra cash for your thoughts or you just want to share your thoughts with the world, check out some of the best software programs for blogging to ensure you use the best possible one for you.

Blogging Platforms

The following blogging software platforms allow you to publish content to a single blog. The two most popular by far are WordPress and Blogger; however, this doesn't mean that these are the only two available. Four of the best software programs for blogging are included in the single blog platform category.

MovableType

Movable Type allows you to install a blog on your own web host or server. This is a great way to ensure your content isn't censured in any way. Plenty of support is available to help you easily install MovableType. After installation, you can immediately begin posting. You also have full control over the look and feel of your blog.

If you don't want to host your own blog, try TypePad. Think MovableType, but without the hassle of installing separate software. Your blog will be hosted online by TypePad's servers.

WordPress

WordPress provides bloggers with the best of both worlds. You can either host your own blog or create a blog on WordPress's network. The only restrictions with WordPress blogs hosted by WordPress are not being able to place ads on your blog and no advertising or promotion of items, articles or anything you may make money from. WordPress hosted blogs are not ideal if you want to make money from your blog.

If you want to earn money from a WordPress blog, download the WordPress software and host your own blog. Many web hosts provide WordPress software with your hosting package. There are no restrictions on self hosted WordPress blogs.

WordPress blogs feature password protected posts, ability to have multiple users on one blog, templates and quick and easy posting. One feature of WordPress many users love is the ability to create different pages that make your blog feel more like a multi-faceted website. Free WordPress blogs are restricted to certain templates, though over 100 are available. Self hosted WordPress blogs are not restricted to the above 100 templates. What makes WordPress so popular is the ease of use and quick stats to let you know exactly how well your blog is doing.

Blogger

Most bloggers who don't want to be hindered by restrictions and want full control over the look and feel of their blog without obtaining a web host should choose Blogger. Blogger is one of the most popular free blogging platforms. Templates exist for most every possible interest. Add to that the ability to fully change any code behind your blog to create your very own Blogger template.

Posting is quick and simple. You can easily add tags to your post as well. Another popular feature of Blogger is the ability to implement Adsense within the Blogger software and completely customize the look for the ads. Blogger is owned by Google. If you already have a Google account, you can use it to log in and use Blogger.

Multi-Blog Software

The three software programs listed below are for posting to multiple blogs. These are not blog hosts, but simply posting tools. If you have multiple blogs or blogs on multiple platforms, consider using one of the below free tools to avoid having to login to multiple sites to post your entries.

ScribeFire

ScribeFire is a plug-in for Firefox that lets you post entries to almost any online bloggingn platform.

Zoundry Raven

This tool is mainly for multiple blogs on Windows Live Writer. The great thing about Zoundry Raven is that it can be run from a USB flash drive.

Windows Live Writer

Windows Live Writer is a desktop posting tool. You can post photos and other content as well as text.
