Farmer's Market season is here and there are plenty to choose from in metro Detroit.
Whether you're looking for broccoli, blueberries, carrots, free-range eggs and meat, or other healthy specialty items, the farmer's market is often the best choice.
Michigan is one of the better farming states in the country and it shows with so many markets to attend as the spring and summer months come around.
Here is a list of metro Detroit-area farmer's markets to try out:
Dearborn- On Fridays from 8 am to 1 pm you can browse this city's entry and pick up all sorts of goodies ranging from vegetables and fruits to baked goods and many more items including candles and crafts. It's called the farmers and artisans market and runs from May 27 to the fall season. This one is just off Michigan Avenue in downtown West Dearborn behind Buddy's Pizza and Bryant Library.
Allen Park- Fridays starting June 3 from 2 to 7 for this city that neighbors Dearborn, weather permitting of course as it is also an outdoor market. Between Harrison and McLain streets.
Detroit- Russell Street between Mack and Gratiot, 5 am-5 pm Saturdays year-round. All sorts of produce and wares are sold at this market and people flock from all over southeast Michigan to attend. For more info on Eastern Market: http://www.detroiteasternmarket.com/. It includes many fine restaurants and stores too. Supino's Pizza is one of the highlights along with a massive meat market.
Eastside- Corner of Mack and Alter in Detroit, from 10 am to 3 pm Saturday starting June 11. Another Detroit farmer's selection inside the city for people who need more healthy food options especially.
Northwest Detroit- From May 26 on, 4 to 8 p.m....this one is at the Bushnell Congregational Church. Another good option for Detroiters looking to find produce. Avalon Bakery and Sweet Potato Sensations are among the vendors. Info: http://www.localharvest.org/northwest-detroit-farmers-market-M18083
