The Virginia Tech Shooting is the Most Fatal School Shooting in U.S History
On May 4, 1970, students were staging an anti-war protest on the campus of Kent State University in Ohio. The National Guard was called in to settle the protesters, resulting in four students killed and nine wounded.
On November 1, 1991 a 28-year old Chinese physics student named Gang Lu opened fire on two buildings on the University of Iowa campus. He was supposedly upset because he had been passed over for academic honors. Lu killed five University employees, four of which were in the physics department, two other people on the campus, and then took his own life.
On August 15, 1996 a 36-year old graduate engineering student named Frederick Martin Davidson was defending his thesis before a faculty committee on the campus of Sand Diego state. Something went wrong and Davidson pulled out a gun and killed three of the professors.
On August 28, 2000 a 36-year old graduate student named James Easton Kelly had been dropped from the doctoral program at the University of Arkansas. Kelly ended up killing the English professor that had been overseeing his coursework, John Locke (67), and then turned the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide.
On January 16, 2002 a 42-year old graduate student named Peter Odighizuwa had recently been dismissed from Virginia's Appalachian School of Law. He decided to go back to the campus, where he killed the dean, a professor, and a student. He was then tackled and subdued by students and three females ended up wounded during that time.
On October 28, 2002 a 40-year old Gulf War Veteran, named Robert Flores, was failing at the University of Arizona Nursing College. Flores decided to walk into an instructor's office with a gun and kill her. Flores then entered one of his nursing classes, armed with five guns, and kills two more of his instructors then takes his own life.
On September 2, 2006 a 49-year old father named Douglas W. Pennington decided to visit his two sons on the campus of Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. He then decides to kill his two sons, Logan P. Pennington (26), and Benjamin M. Pennington (24), before killing himself.
And now the most recent and deadliest shooting on the campus of Virginia Tech. The most recent number of victims has reached 32 plus the shooter, Cho Sueng-Hui, and dozens injured.
