Starbucks Has Announced the Locations of Closing Stores

Brad Sylvester
Starbucks has recently announced that 600 Starbucks stores will be closing for good. Maybe the downturn in the economy makes people think twice about paying $6 for a cup of coffee. Of course, news of the Starbucks store closings come in direct opposition to the news we've been hearing for the last ten years; a new Starbucks store opening had become so common that one year at Christmas I swear I heard James Stewart telling me that every time I hear a bell a new Starbucks store is opened. There are literally major intersections in some cities where there is a Starbucks across the street from another Starbucks. I presume this would target that specific demographic of customer who really wants a coffee, but not enough to cross the street for it. So the recent announcement of Starbucks Store closings should come as no surprise to anyone, least of all Starbucks themselves.

Complete list of Starbucks Store Closings

The full and complete list of Starbucks store closings can be found here at the Starbucks website (which is pretty obvious at www.starbucks.com. (Which leads me to wonder why so many people enter Starbucks store closings into Google to find the list? Instead of just typing Starbucks.com in the browser window... but that's a topic for another day.) The list of store closings makes it doubtful that vacationers will be still able to travel completely across the United States by simply throwing a stone to the nearest Starbucks and then walking over to pick up the stone to throw at the next Starbucks.

California Starbucks Store Closings

California leads the way in Starbucks closings. Over 85 Starbucks stores will close in California alone. While economists continue to crunch the numbers, there is fear that the Starbucks closings may cause California to fall from its position as the largest economy of any state in the union. California may be helped by the 39 Starbucks store closings planned for New York, 59 Florida closings, and 57 closings in Texas. Only 1 Starbucks will close in my home state of New Hampshire, and in neighboring Vermont no Starbucks stores will be closed. I could not confirm the rumors that the planned Starbucks closings for Vermont were cancelled when former Vermont Senator Jim Jeffords vowed to take the stores independent if the folks back in the Starbucks big house didn't show Vermont the respect it deserves.

  • The list of Starbucks store closings shows 88 stores to close in California.
  • Vermont will keep all of its Starbucks, presumably the auditors "couldn't get there from here".
  • With 59 Starbucks coffee shops closing in Florida, the Sunshine state won't shine quite as brightly

Apparently even ubiquitousness has its limits! Enough of a mediocre product is more than enough. Let's hope that we might see more PEETS or other really good coffee brews readily available to we caffeine gourmets.

I'd like to know why people type _many_ things in Google. Nice intro.
