Listen Closely

April Higney
She said, "listen closely, I was ready,
to start over,
ready to walk away,
and leave it all behind."

He said, "listen closely, I'm sorry,
for acting like a fool,
for hurting you and our little girl too,
and I can't so easily get you off my mind."

She said, "listen closely, I'm not about to give in so easily,
there are things you need to hear, in my eyes, you need to see,
I was ready, ready to just walk away,
give me a reason, one good reason, why you want for me to stay."

He said, "listen closely, I love you,
I know I have not acted like it, but I do,
and I've been selfish, and disregarded your feelings,
and I know you still love me too."

She said, "listen closely, I have changed since we've been apart,
I'm not about to let you come back into my life and rip away my heart."
She said, "listen closely, yes I do love you, and the feelings
don't just easily disappear,
but listen closely, they are not just simple words that I am wanting to hear."

He said, "listen closely, I've thought a lot about what you've said since we've been apart,
and I'm not so easily changed, but I don't want to lose what we once had, and I've loved you from the start."

He said, "listen closely, I'll do everything I can to show you,
please don't just disappear.
Please forgive me,
don't give up on the love that we have held.
He whispered, "listen closely, I need you right here."

~and he places her hand upon his chest, his hand upon hers, the beating of two hearts.~
