Listening to a Child's Laughter

Have you ever really listened to a child laughing? If you listen closely, you can hear so much just in a child's laughter.

You can hear innocence. A child does not know the real horror of the world yet. That is the way it should be. A child should be able to keep his/her youth just as long as he/she can.

You can hear real joy and happiness. A child's laughter is not made up. When they laugh, they laugh for a real reason. They are not just finding something to laugh at. A child should always be able to laugh.

You can hear love in a child's laughter. If they are laughing at something you said (whether it was funny or not), they are laughing out of love and respect for you. That is why a parent/adult should always give the child something to laugh at.

If you are listening with you heart and not just your ears, you can actually hear your own youth and laughter. Growing up is hard, being an adult is harder. A child can give you back, at least for a little while, your own youth.

A child's laughter is the most precious sound in the world. A laughing child means a happy child! And all children deserve to be happy.

If you are ever around a playground or other place where there are lots of children, listen! And I mean sit quietly and really really listen. Do not just sit there and watch the children. Listen to their laughter, the yells of excitement, their squeals of joy, and even their "I did not", "Yes you did" childish squabbles.

Our children of today will be our adults of tomorrow. A child has to grow up way too fast in today's society. Yet, for some reason, a child keeps laughing. As adults, we find it harder and harder to find something to laugh at. However, if a child can continue to laugh as he/she grows up, well just maybe he/she will be able to find more to laugh about as adults.

Yet, a child can find the most unusual things to laugh at. A good example is my little boy. He goes outside and laughs at bugs crawling around on things. He makes up stories about what they bugs are doing and where they are going. He just makes up things to laugh about. He loves coming up with his own jokes. They may not make any sense what-so-ever, but that makes them even funnier.

So the next time you are down and out and need something to laugh about, just follow a child around for a day. I guarantee that you will be continuously laughing. You may not even know what you are laughing at or about, yet you will be doing it. A child can find laughter in almost anything.

So please, as adults give a child something to laugh at or about. They truly deserve it!

I like to think that a child's laughter was the first music in the world.
