I had never thought about real health benefits from using a mouth wash. My perception was they were to make your breath fresh. I was surprised to learn that there are many theories and studies underway exploring the connection between good oral health and overall health. Emerging science is already suggesting that advanced gum disease may be linked to diabetes, cardiovascular problems and pre-term birth. Most American adults will have ginivitis, the early stages of gum disease, at some point in their lives. The knowledge that this can affect your overall health is important to know because it is possible to have ginivitis and not even know it. While Listerine alone has not been proven to cure gum disease, it will help in keeping your mouth and gums healthy. Also, it gives you a fresh feeling and you will not be as concerned about having bad breath. You will feel100% clean and have a healthier mouth.
I used Listerine Antiseptic mouth wash for 6 mouths, twice a day as my dentist recommended. Once you get into the routine of using it, you don't even think about it. When I went in for my 6 month dental cleaning, I was very pleased that my mouth and gums were healthy, and the cleaning only took about half as long as I am used to. Would I recommend using Listerine? The answer is a quick Yes.
Listerine works by fighting germs with four essential oils. It uses the power of these essential oils to kill millions of germs on contact. It penetrates plague biofilm and kills germs. Biofilm is a recent term for the bacterial film on youre teeth called plaque. Brushing and flossing help disrupt and remove this biofilm, but sometimes may miss hard to reach areas. Listerine Antiseptic penetrates the biofilm to kill plaque and gingivitis germs.
Listerine should be used after flossing and brushing your teeth at lease twice a day. It is recommended it be used in the morning and before you go to bed. You should rinse for 30 seconds each time and you will have 24 hour protection.
Listerine can be purchased at most drug stores, grocery stores and super centers. A 16.7 ounce bottle cost around $5.00. Prices do vary and it is often on sale and I have found coupons to use when I buy it.
