Lite Brite VS. RoseArt Activity Cube

When you were a kid did you have a Lite Brite? Well, I did. I was amazed at how much it has changed since I had one. There is all kinds of colors and shapes of pegs and a numerous amount of designs for the sheets. As a parent we are always looking for the best value at a low price when buying toys or crafts. On my daughter's Christmas list this past Christmas was a Lite Brite. Well, at the store I discovered there were a couple of possibilities that would match my needs. There was of course the Lite Brite and then there was something called a RoseArt Activity Cube. I immediately started to compare the two.

First, the RoseArt Activity Cube has 4 sides. Each side has a different activity. There was a side for lite activity, glowing dry erase side, tracing side, and neon drawing. It comes with 250 pegs, dry erase crayons and markers, and 9 sheets for the lite art side . It retailed at the time for 9.99. The Lite Brite just had the one side for lite activity. It came with sheets and pegs. The Lite Brite also retailed at 9.99.

Now with those facts, most parents would probably go for the RoseArt Activity Cube because it had more activity opportunities. I bought it because my daughter loves to draw and the Lite Brite did not offer that feature. When she opened the RoseArt Activity Cube at Christmas I immediately started to attempt to put the cube together. I think that of all of the toys that she has gotten the RoseArt Activity Cube was the hardest thing to put together, it kept jumping out of place as you would put the other side together. She played with it for days. In about 2 weeks she made me aware that we were out of sheets for the lite activity side of the RoseArt. I thought that I could find the sheets at the store, after all I found the cube at the store. I ended up having to search all department stores and then ended up on the internet. There was not a website directly for the company. I found this odd, since in these days in times there is a website for almost anything. I looked on the instructions that came with the product and all that they had was a 800 number. After you call the company, a representative so politely said that the replacement parts are not available in stores. The company has a form that they send you. The replacement sheets have 8 to a pack for $2.00 with a shipping charge of 1.00.There currently is only 3 design choices for you to chose from. The pegs are 300 to a pack for $4.50 with a shipping charge of $2.00. The product has a 4-6 week delivery expectancy. Another problem that I have is the light bulb that goes in the RoseArt Activity Cube was not even included and for some reason the bulb blows quickly. Granted you can find a bulb at your local store, I am buying one a week.

Lite Brite has replacement sheets available at the store for $3-$4.00 depending on design and it comes with pegs. There is plenty of design choices and they come out with new ones frequently.

The lite Brite bulb is not giving me any problem. Lite Brite makes it easy for parents with little to none on assembly. I wish now that I would have purchased the Lite Brite in the first place. Even though the Lite Brite does not have the other 3 sides of entertainment, my daughter likes this one best because of its choice of more designs.

If you have an impatient child like I do, then you know that it would be a big deal if your child had to wait for the shipping time on the RoseArt Activity Cube. I have ended up buying the Lite Brite because of the ease to find replacements for it. I hope this helps parents decide which one is best for you.
