Lite-On DVD Burner Model IHAS122-04 Review

In my most recent build, the Lite-On DVD burner model iHAS122-04 review gets two thumb's up, 5 stars, 5 Eggs, and a 10 out of 10 rating. This SATA DVD burner is fast, stable, and has proven to be reliable in my new machine. I have used Lite-On burners and players for years now, and have nothing but pleasant experiences with each new purchase of their products, and the Lite-On DVD burner model iHAS122-04 is no exception.

After two months of use, I have burned 50 DVD's, a couple of CD's, and have used it to transfer over 400 Gigs of data, and in each case it went fast and smooth. Out of some 50+ burns there have been no coasters, (for you non geeks that means foiled or unusable burned disks are good for nothing other than use as a coaster), and its operation is smooth and quite.

The Lite-On DVD burner model iHAS122-04 has a read speed of 16X for DVD's and 48X for CD's. Burn speeds are 22X for DVD +R and DVD -R, 8X for DVD+RW and 6X for DVD-RW, 48X for CD-R, 32X for CD-RW, and 8X for DVD +R and -R Dual Layer DVD's.

Perhaps the best feature of this DVD burner is the price. I got mine at $21 and got it with $1.99 shipping for purchasing other items. One complaint of the Lite-On drives is that they automatically close when the computer is booting up. Many times I've had a disk in the drive, turn on the computer and open the tray to get a DVD out of it, and it closes as I'm trying to get the disk out, but this is a small issue and is not one that deters me, I look forward to buying many more Lite-On DVD burners.

My greatest concern when I purchased this drive was the fact that it is a SATA drive, and my version of Windows is XP without service packs. The reason I was concerned about this is because without at least service pack 2 on XP, it will not recognize SATA hard drives, especially larger one's, but my disk went in and installed with no issues what so ever. As in the past, on my future purchases, if the LITE-ON DVD Burner Model iHAS122-04 is no longer available, I will look for a similar Lite-On DVD burner because their price is always right, and the quality seems to meet or exceed that of more expensive drives and burners.

Great review. I have a Lite-On DVD burner that has been acting a bit weird, but it may be some sort of glitch in my Linux burning software.
