Literacy Programs May Improve the Health of Charlotte Residents

Literacy projects may improve the health of Charlotte locals. Groups who assist with literacy programs are located in most parts of the world, and Charlotte is no exception.

Projects to assist with literacy in Charlotte are thought to help people improve their heath in several ways. Children and adults who have difficulty reading may improve their ability to read packaging of foods they purchase. This seems to be something many take for granted. However, someone who can't read may not be able to determine which foods are best for their health.

If a teen cannot read, no doubt as an adult he or she will shy away from the written word. Entering adulthood without the proper reading skills equals less income in most instances. Reports indicate that those with lower incomes are not eating the same quality foods those with higher incomes enjoy.

Literacy projects are in most neighborhoods and volunteers are often needed. Links below this article offer a connection to groups that are involved in the community.

Anyone who does not know where to volunteer may find the answer by contacting a local church or school.

One program called The Augustine Project is through St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Charlotte. For more information the church number is (704) 332-7746. Questions may be emailed to Candace Armstrong at armstrong4300@bellsouth.net.

Tutors who volunteer through St. Peter's are trained before meeting and working with any students. Anyone with an attitude for serving the community may be able to help with this program.

If literacy projects improve the health of Charlotte locals, this community will see great improvement in the health of the citizens. This will definitely be a good thing.
