They will be under contract to live on the island for 6 months. The job requires them to take part in activities, such as snorkeling, bushwalking and exploring the great barrier reef islands. They will be required to take photos, videos and blog daily about their experiences and on occasion speak to the media. They will also be required to get to know locals and learn about their destination. In addition to housing, computer, cameras, internet, airfare and travel insurance will all be provided.
The Best Job in the World Campaign is Queensland tourism boards attempt at getting more people to visit the islands of the Great Barrier Reef. In hopes that there innovative campaign will stand out and bring more tourist to Queensland. They expect this marketing plan to bring in about $70 million worth of publicity for Queensland.
The competition will be tight. They received over 200 applications in the first day after it was announced. Tourism Minister Desley Boyle said "This is not a competition, it is a genuine job, and it will be tough for the successful candidate." Competition or not, the chosen applicant will be a winner.
Applications are being accepted from around the world and the application process closes on February 22. To apply you are required to submit a 60 second video application. The applicants will be narrowed down to 11 and the 11 applicants will be flown to the Hamilton Islands in May, for an intense interview process. The final chosen applicant will start their 6 month contract in July.
Hamilton Island is one of the 600 Great Barrier Reef Islands. The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef system in the world, with over 2,900 individual reefs. The area also supports a diverse amount of wildlife.

Post a CommentI agree the idea does seems great, though, yes, it probably wouldn't be all roses. I would be interested to read some of the blog of the winner, though.
I wanted to say, I think they are having trouble with the site. I have not been able to get into the link I put up. Maybe an overload of people.
My husband heard about this on the radio today and told me to go apply for it. Don't get me wrong I would love to go live there for 6 months but, that is going to be real work for whoever gets it. I don't want to live on someone else's schedule that's why I am here :) If I got it I wouldn't turn it down though :P
