Lit-n-Lattes Book Adds Spice and Structure to Reading Clubs

Carolyn R Scheidies
Lit-n-Lattes, written for book lovers by book lovers, offers more than a list of books for reading clubs. While Lit-n-Lattes mixes both classic and modern reading choices for reading clubs, it also includes much more. Each chapter includes questions, quotes, a critics comments, intriguing facts, references if being used with Bible discussion reading clubs as well as suggestions for decorations, food-including recipes, even fun invitations.

For years, when visiting in Omaha, I listened to my sisters-in-laws talk about their reading club, the book they were currently reading, when the next reading club meeting was scheduled and at whose house. At times the books they mentioned sounded so interesting I went home, bought the book and read it for myself. But while I read voraciously, I wasn't part of a formal book club. Maybe it was time to start thinking in that direction.

If you've been thinking about starting a book or reading club, Lit-n-Lattes draws together the books and structure to help you, and me, do just that. What is a reading club? It is where a group of individuals get together to discuss a book of their choice.

A reading club can be as easy to start as calling some of your friends with whom you share the love of reading. Agree to each read a particular book and a time to get together to discuss the book. That's all it takes to form a reading club. If you want to join a local reading club, contact your church, school or library. Sometimes reading clubs have different focuses (fiction, non-fiction, mystery, romance, etc.) so you'll want to join (or start) one that meshes with your reading interests.

Books like Lit-n-Lattes take the uncertainty out of what books the more general reading club will choose. Lit-n-Lattes includes a varied list of books, twenty-four in all, both modern and classic, secular and inspirational, for reading clubs. These include The Book Thief, Doomsday Book, The Great Divorce, Jane Eyre, My Sister's Keeper, How Green Was My Valley, The Memory Keeper's Daughter, At The Back of the North Wind, The Last Sin Eater, Traveling Mercies and other books both modern and classic to fit the tastes of today's reading clubs.

Just because Lit-n-Lattes includes a book for the reading club, doesn't mean the book has to be chosen or the books offered read in order. The difference between Lit-n-Lattes and other reading club suggestions is is that Lit-n-Lattes explores the spiritual as well as other themes in the books. Lit-n-Lattes does include scriptural references in each chapter, but a reading club certainly doesn't need to have a spiritual purpose in order to find Lit-n-Lattes useful. Any reading club will find this small book handy, informative and fun to use.

Lit-n-Lattes can be ordered, if not already in stock, at any online or local bookstore. Lit-n-Lattes, ISBN 978-0-7644-3714-4, from Group Publishing. How about starting your reading club with Lit-n-Lattes.
