Little Black Dress - The Halloween Costume That is Already in Your Closet

Kelly O'Neil
So, you're stressing about your Halloween costume again this year. What if I told you that you already had your costume in your closet? Well, you do. Just pull out that little black dress, add a few accessories, and you're set. Here are a few ideas to take that classic staple from chic to scary (and I mean in a good way).

Witches look glamorous in any little black dress. Simply add scary makeup, a draping shawl, and a witch hat, and you're the most put together witch at the party.
Movie stars are well known for their red carpet entrances in the ever present little black dress. Go as Audrey Hepburn "Breakfast at Tiffany's" style if you have a tailored dress. Or with a few rhinestones, a pair of sunglasses, and even a boa, you can hit the red carpet like any modern day diva should.

Career costumes are a lot of fun with your tailored little black dress, too. Go as an eighties professional by adding a bright colored blazer, gaudy jewelry, high heals, and big hair. Power through the nineties with big shoulder pads and pointy toed pumps. Add converse sneakers, pigtails, a sweatshirt, and wire rimmed glasses to go as an office casual computer programmer of the early two-thousands.

With all the fuss about celebutantes, heiresses, and divas in the news, why not be one? Pair your little black dress with strappy metallic sandals, lots of bling (rhinestones will work if your diamonds are being cleaned) huge 'in cognito' sunglasses, a blackberry and, of course, a puppy (a stuffed animal will do) in your purse. Be sure to affect that characteristic camera ready pose, and say (to no one in particular) "oh! No pictures please."

A little black evening dress has a ton of costume potential. Be a sophisticated princess (or better yet, a queen). Actually, any form of royalty will work with your little black dress. Even a beauty queen will do.

The possibilities of the little black dress as a costume are endless. Depending on the cut, a few other ideas include going as a French maid, stewardess, mortician, vampire, Elvira, a sexy kitten (the kind with ears and a tail), the First Lady, or a make-up counter attendant.

Whatever you choose to be, just have fun. Halloween is a great excuse for you to wear your favorite little black dress, so pull it out, dress it up, and have a safe and Happy Halloween.

I'm a teen. I need something better. I was thinking something a little more sexy. Thanks for the effort though.
